APC drops Okorocha’s in-law, adopts Hope Uzodinma as its governorship candidate

The National Working Committee NWC of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC has adopted Sen. Hope Uzodinma as the governorship candidate of the party for Imo state. Senator Hope Uzodimma Vanguard gathered that the final decision on the issue was taken during a meeting of the NWC held Wednesday in Abuja.

Accordingly, the party has concluded all arrangements to send the name of the senator to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC ahead of the November 2 deadline for the submission of governorship candidates. Delta Central: ‘INEC list puts court order to rest’

A source who was privy to the outcome of the meeting of the NWC said the meeting again reviewed the conduct of primaries in the states especially in areas where there were challenges and decided to weigh its options before arriving at major decisions.

“Although, the chairman was summoned to the villa in the middle of the meeting, but the decision on Imo was almost unanimous. Hope Uzodinma is the man”, said the source. Vanguard had earlier reported how the party leadership had asked the Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha to chose between his senatorial ambition and his desire to have his son in-law, Mr Nwosu as his successor. Anambra PDP reiterates support for Obi’s nomination The governor was reported to have explained why he and Mr Nwosu were the best candidates for the governorship and senatorial seats, arguing that no one could win election in the state as presently constituted without his backing. Before then, the national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole had advised the governor to cede 45 percent of the party structure to the Sen. Uzodinma group in a bid to cater for the interest of the contending force within the party.

On governors’ meeting with Buhari, Obi’s candidature: Wike Airs His View

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that there is no iota of doubt that the APC-led Federal Government has failed Nigerians, necessitating the need for a new leadership in 2019.

Wike further stated that the visit of four South-South Governors to President Muhammadu Buhari had no political connotation, noting that the governors were in the Presidential Villa to discuss the development of the Niger Delta.

He spoke in an interview with Channels Television Roadmap 2019.

He noted: “Our meeting with the President had nothing to do with politics. It was strictly for the benefit of the South-South.

“There is no personal problem between the President and myself. He came to Port Harcourt to commission a project that would add value and I had to be there.

“But when it comes to politics, I say no, the party of the President has performed poorly. It has failed Nigerians. The APC is not doing well. But when it comes to governance, you give the President that respect. ”

Commenting on the zoning of the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate to the South-East and eventual nomination of Former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi, Governor Wike stated that contrary to political insinuations, he played no role in the emergence of Peter Obi.

Governor Wike stated: “I never nominated Peter Obi. But the mere fact that the Vice Presidential Candidate is coming from the South-East does not give the zone the sole right to nominate a person , since the entire country will benefit.

“When the South-East said they were not consulted before Peter Obi was nominated, where did we meet as a party to agree that the Vice Presidential Candidate must come from the South-East. But we said if the Presidential Candidate believes he has somebody to work with, we said so be it”.

He said the fact that the Vice Presidential Candidate should come from the South-East, does not foreclose the inputs of the other five geo-political zones.

I Don't Support Atiku's Presidential Ambition --Gov. Al-Makura.

Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has warned against his name being linked to the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar. Umaru Al-Makura Reacting to an online publication in the state, Al-Makura denied meeting with the PDP presidential candidate in Dubai as alleged in the publication.

Describing the allegations as irresponsible propaganda being sponsored in Nasarawa State over 2019, Governor Al-Makura said the calculated attempt is designed to smear his political position in his mother-party, APC. His statement According to a statement by his Director, Strategic Communications and Press Affairs, Yakubu Laimai, “the governor has never at any given time held a closed-door meeting in Dubai, UAE, with PDP’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over 2019 general elections as published by an online media in the state. “The claim that Governor Tanko Al-Makura has agreed to work for Atiku Abubakar to ensure he wins the presidential polls in Nasarawa State is not only a fallacy, distraction and attempts to sow seeds of discord in APC and with President Muhammadu Buhari, but a plan by the opposition to destroy the governor’s hard-earned good records in the state.”

What Four South-South Governors Discussed with Buhari.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday met behind closed-doors with State Governors from the South-South geopolitical zones, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Four out of the six Governors of the zone were present in the meeting, which lasted about one hour.

They were reluctant to talk to State House correspondents afterwards, but in a brief response, Governor of Bayelsa State, Siriake Dickson who spoke on behalf of others simply said, “My colleagues and I came to have audience with the President, to discuss issues pertinent to our country and also pertinent to our respective states.

“We had a robust and fruitful discussion with the president and he promised to look into it in anyway possible.”

When pressed on the area of discussion, Governor Dickson added, “We don’t want to go into those details.”

The other Governors included Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Siriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

It is also believed the Supreme Court verdict on the oil-bearing states of the Niger Delta on October 24, was also discussed.

Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states had approached the Supreme Court for the interpretation of Section 16(1) of the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contract Act in suit number SC964/2016 filed on their behalf by their lead Counsel, Lucius Nwosu.

The seven-man panel of the Supreme Court, which included the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen, in a unanimous ruling, ordered that the 13% derivation that is due to the oil producing states be paid upon recovery, in accordance with Section 162 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Justice John Okoro, delivering the judgment, mandated the federal government to embark on an upward adjustment of the shares of revenues accruing to the government, whenever the price of crude oil exceeds $20 per barrel.

We Caught Shiite Members with Bombs --Police.

The FCT Police Command on Tuesday announced the arrest of some members of the El-Zakzaky-led Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) with 31 bottles of petrol bomb and other dangerous weapons being ferried into Abuja.

The command said the members’ plot was to attack innocent citizens, including law enforcement agents deployed to protect lives and property.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, said this while addressing a press conference.

He said: “It is also unfortunate to inform you that members of this group during a violent protest, today, 30th October, 2018 without any provocation went on rampage and burnt down a Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) patrol vehicle deployed at Ademola Adetokumbo Crescent. Buhari’s supporters working for Atiku – Buhari group

Grassroots Mobilizers for Buhari (GMB), a political association promoting President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 presidential ambition, has suspended some of its members for allegedly fraternising with Buhari’s opposition, Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku Abubakar is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for the 2019 general elections.

A statement by the Director-General of the GMB, Hajiya Fatimah Goni in Abuja on Tuesday, gave the names of the suspended members.

Goni revealed that the affected members had been parading themselves as members of the association in spite their expulsion.

She, however, stated that the association had notified relevant law enforcement agencies on the fraudulent activities of the expelled persons, whom she said, were bent on tarnishing the good name of the association and that of President Buhari.

“The attention of the Grassroots Mobilizers for Buhari (GMB) has been drawn to the activities of some of its suspended and expelled members who are now parading themselves as executives of GMB, and are going about deceiving vulnerable politicians and organisations alike with the intent to misinform, defraud and extort them in this season of politics and politicking,

“These elements have, in the past weeks, been planning with an evil intent to bring Grassroots Mobilizers for Buhari into shame and disrepute in a grand design using the name, logo and letterheads of GMB to make a declaration in support of the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

“We hereby draw the attention of the general public that the plan, intent and actions of these criminal-minded individuals do not in any way reflect the views of the GMB and we, by this disclaimer, deny and disown their plans, intent and actions in part, whole and its entirety to be false and of criminal intentions.

“We in the GMB are volunteers for nation building. Our voluntary mobilization efforts for the support of President Buhari is neither for sale nor salable.

“Our time, energy and efforts put in the steering of this organization are with the intention that the administration of President Buhari remains the right choice and the best for the nation in these times when the evil cancer of corruption and its supporting tissues are regrouping to re-infect, re-hijack and re-inflict our nationhood.

“We at the GMB will not and shall never compromise for any article of corruption under any guise whatsoever,’’ she said.

The director-general also dismissed Sen. Bukar Ibrahim’s outburst that President Buhari might not win the majority votes in the North East in 2019.

Senator Shehu Sani predicts doom for APC, wants Akpabio back in PDP

Senator Shehu Sani has predicted doom for his former political party,  All Progressives Congress, APC and urged a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who recently joined the party to return to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Shehu Sani Sani left the APC two weeks ago after failing to get the party’s Senate ticket for Kaduna Central Senatorial District.

He had been promised the ticket by the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, but the stiff resistance by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State ensured that the offer was not actualised. Ortom mourns Victoria, wife to former Benue Gov Aper Aku His prediction of doom came a day after another APC senator and former governor of Yobe State predicted that the party could lose the election in its Northeast stronghold.

Predicting doom for his former party in a tweet laced with parables yesterday evening, Senator Sani said: “Oh ye Godswill, leave Nineveh through the Tigris River before dawn and returneth to thy city Damascus.” He spoke of Nineveh, which by biblical accounts, had been slated for destruction and had a prophet, Jonah, sent to warn it of its imminent catastrophe. How Ribadu, Buhari’s in-law are confronting Governor Bindow That tweet had been re-tweeted more than 200 times and received more than 600 likes. Following up on his allegory, Senator Sani charged stakeholders not to upbraid Senator Ibrahim over his insinuations concerning the ruling party. “Stop heckling or throwing stones on Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim. He is just a meteorologist. All you need to do is to mind the weather and appreciate his forecast.

Arewa youths endorse ex-vice president, give reasons

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has endorsed the candidacy of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the 2019 election.

In an interview with DAILY POST over the weekend, the President of AYCF, Yerima Shettima explained that the emergence of Abubakar as a presidential candidate of the PDP was a good thing for Nigeria.

Shettima stressed that the former Vice President should emerge victorious in 2019 because the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has failed Nigerians.

He vowed to ensure that the current All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration does not stay in office beyond 2019.

Shettima said, “For us in AYCF, we have said it over and over that Buhari’s administration has failed Nigerians and we have passed vote of no confidence on the current administration before now, and to that effect we can’t trust this administration anymore.
We are saying that we demand a total new order and for us, the emergence of Atiku is a good thing for Nigeria and we have to look towards that direction.

“I will canvass other ethnic nationalities and groups to ensure that the tenure of this administration comes to an end.

“We will ensure that Buhari’s administration does not exceed beyond 2019, we will vote them out.”

China’s record has exerted a “gravitational pull” on the world’s economic output.---The Economist

When scholars of international relations predict that the 2000s will be a “Chinese century”, they are not being premature. Although America remains the lone superpower, China has already replaced it as the driver of global change.
There is one economic metric on which China already ranks first. Measured at market exchange rates, China’s gdp is still 40% smaller than America’s. However, on a purchasing-power-parity (ppp) basis, which adjusts currencies so that a basket of goods and services is worth the same amount in different countries, the Chinese economy became the world’s largest in 2013. Although China is often grouped with other “emerging markets”, its performance is unique: its gdp per person at ppp has risen tenfold since 1990. In general, poorer economies grow faster than rich ones, because it is easier to “catch up” when starting from a low base. Yet in other countries that were as poor as China was in 1990, purchasing power has merely doubled.

China’s record has exerted a “gravitational pull” on the world’s economic output. The Economist has calculated a geographic centre of the global economy by taking an average of each country’s latitude and longitude, weighted by their gdp. At the height of America’s dominance, this point sat in the north Atlantic. But China has tugged it so far east that the global centre of economic gravity is now in Siberia.

Because China is so populous and is developing so quickly, it is responsible for a remarkable share of global change. Since the start of the financial crisis in 2008, for example, China has accounted for 45% of the gain in world gdp. In 1990 some 750m Chinese people lived in extreme poverty; today fewer than 10m do. That represents two-thirds of the world’s decline in poverty during that time. China is also responsible for half of the total increase in patent applications over the same period.

For all its talk of a “peaceful rise”, China has steadily beefed up its military investment—even as the rest of the world cut back after the end of the cold war. As a result, the People’s Liberation Army accounts for over 60% of the total increase in global defence spending since 1990. And all of this growth has come at a considerable cost to the environment: China is also the source of 55% of the increase in the world’s carbon emissions since 1990.

How Akpabio became a woman – Fani-Kayode

Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation, has criticised former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio over his reason for dumping the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom had on Saturday said he defected to APC because he discovered that the former ruling party was about to sink.

But the former minister while reacting to the release of former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose from EFCC custody questioned the gender and character of Akpabio.

He queried him for joining ‘fold of the persecutors of his people.’

Fani-Kayode in a post on Twitter wrote: “I commend my brother, Gov. Fayose for his courage and boldness in the face of persecution by the agents of tyranny.

“Now that he is out of detention, can we ask what manner of man is Akpabio, who caved in, turned to a woman and joined the fold of the persecutors of his people?"

There will be catastrophe in Imo if my son-in-law fails to succeed me – Okorocha.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has called on the National working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, led by Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, to submit the name of his son in-law, Mr, Uche Nwosu, to the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the APC governorship primaries in the state.

Okorocha made the appeal in a statement obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Monday.

Okorocha said upholding Nwosu’s candidacy will “protect the high integrity of President Muhammadu Buhari and the integrity of the Party.”

He added that Nwosu remained the “only hope” for the state, stressing that the candidates of other parties would spell doom for the state.

“For some time now, I have been in Abuja fighting for the soul of Imo State from possible kidnap and subsequent destruction by political thieves.

“The only hope left for Imo State now is for Uche Nwosu to emerge as a candidate. Otherwise, there will be total economic catastrophe when I leave as governor.

“Though they have spoken falsely and badly about our candidate, nobody can say that he was a fraudster in Lagos or that he was an armed robber in Benin or an arrogant man or a criminal.

“They have actually nothing to say about him except that he is my son-in-law,” the release read.

APC senator, Abba Ibrahim, disowns statement on Buhari’s chances, says he was quoted out of context

Former Yobe state governor now the Senator representing Yobe Central in the Senate, Bukkar Abba Ibrahim, has reacted to newspaper reports where he was quoted to have declared that North-eastern states may vote against President Muhammadu Buhari, during the 2019 election.

The reports also quoted the Abba Ibrahim as saying that massive rigging may not save Buhari from imminent defeat.

But the APC senator, in a statement issued by his Media Aide, Yusuf Ali, and forwarded to DAILY POST on Monday, stated that he was quoted out of context, stressing that he never meant to disparage the party which, according to him, he worked so hard to build with other progressives elements.

The former governor restated his loyalty to the APC leadership and the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, and promised his continued support to the reelection bid of the President come 2019.

The statement reads, “Senator Dr Bukar Abba Ibrahim has reacted to newspapers reports published and making the rounds in the social media sites that he is a loyal APC party member, a chieftain and an elder statesman. President Muhammadu Buhari is his president, he supported him as he will continue to support Buhari 2019 and even beyond.

“He mean no harm or disparage the party which he fought so hard to build with other progressives element in 2015 to save Nigeria from drift and the decadence of the PDP.

“Many have given it different interpretations as it suits them, some quoted him out of context for political reasons. What he said is a wake up call for his party to work harder towards the next general elections to win overwhelmingly.

“I want to make it categorically clear that Sen Bukar was misunderstood, he did not say and will never say, “Mass rigging will not save APC/Buhari, APC is worse than PDP, PMB should not expect Votes from N/East, 2019 Dicey for PMB in N/East, etc as it’s been circulated in the media.”

Minimum Wage: Osinbajo’s Meeting With Governors, Ministers Faces Inconclusive End

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has met with some state governors and ministers over the minimum wage demanded by the organised labour in the country.

The meeting held behind closed doors on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Governor Abdul’Aizz Yari (Zamfara), told State House correspondents after the meeting that it ended inconclusively.

He said although the governors were willing to pay the N30,000 new minimum wage demanded by workers, they lacked the capacity to do so.

Governor Yari disclosed that an emergency meeting of the Governors’ Forum would be convened on Tuesday.

Discussions at the meeting, according to him, will focus on finalising agreements on an exact minimum wage the states are willing to pay their workers.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, and Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, attended the meeting.

Mr Boss Mustapha, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, and Dr Chris Ngige at the meeting held in Abuja on October 29, 2018.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, and the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, were also present.

The meeting also had in attendance Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as well as his Plateau and Kebbi counterparts, Simon Lalong and Atiku Bagudu.

The Federal Government convened the meeting one week after the organised labour threatened to embark on a fresh nationwide strike on November 6.

The labour body had disclosed its next move in a statement jointly signed by the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on October 21.

It explained that the decision was necessary following what it described as the government’s unwillingness to implement a new minimum wage for workers in the country.

We get forceful instructions to reduce generation – Power firms

Electricity generation companies in the country have said their power plants are being forced to operate below their optimal capacity levels.

The nation’s total power generation has been hovering between 3,000 megawatts and 3,500MW in recent months. It stood at 3,741.30MW as of 6am on Sunday, according to the Nigeria Electricity System Operator.

The Executive Secretary, Association of Power Generation Companies, the umbrella body for the Gencos, Dr Joy Ogaji, in an emailed response to questions from our correspondent, attributed the problem to transmission and distribution.

She said, “Specifically, generation companies are pinned down by some operational impediments. The frequency of instructions to either increase load or decrease load (ramp up and ramp down) and, in some cases, shut down, has induced damaging stresses to the components of the machines.

“These instructions, reflective of the grid behaviour, are subjecting key electrical components of the power plants to operational stresses. Our available generation has always been steady between 7,500MW and 8,000MW; you can check the records at the National Control Centre, Osogbo.”

According to Ogaji, the generation plants are now being used as regulating power reserve by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, via its subsidiary, the System Operator/NCC, to stabilise the national grid.

“Some of the machines, for instance, with 145MW capacity, are subjected by the NCC to operate at 70MW, if not less on daily average, which constitutes 50 per cent base load value,” she added.

She noted that experts had prescribed solutions such as procurement of regulating and spinning reserve as well as tools to be developed “to manage the grid to the mandatory free governor mode.”

“The TCN has refused to put these in place; instead, it is forcing the Gencos to operate outside factory capability,” Ogaji added.

According to the APGC spokesperson, all the thermal and hydro power plants are designed to operate optimally and efficiently at base load.

“Operating these plants far away from their base load implies a reduction in efficiency or, in other words, an increase in consumption of gas for the thermal plants by as much as 15 to 20 per cent (extra cost not recognised by the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc nor captured in the Multi-Year Tariff Order),” she stated.

The government-owned NBET buys electricity in bulk from the Gencos through the Power Purchase Agreement and sells to the distribution companies, which then supply it to the consumers.

“Other issues like non-payment for deemed capacity, non-payment of all monies accruable to the Gencos from all international customers, and inconsistencies in the regulator’s framework also constitute challenges that need to be surmounted,” Ogaji added.

Female 'suicide bomber' blows herself up in Tunisian capital

The apparent terror attack in Tunis sent people running for their lives in the street

A female suicide bomber blew herself up in the centre of Tunisia's capital, killing at least one police officer and sparking panic in the street.

Local reports say a woman wearing a suicide vest blew herself up next to a police van and outside a hotel.

The explosion happened in Avenue Habib Bourguiba in Tunis at about 1.50pm local time.

The apparent terror attack in front of the Hana International Hotel and the Municipal Theatre Hall sent bystanders running for their lives.

There have been a number of terror attacks in Tunisia in recent years, including at least three in which Brits were killed or injured.

The UK government said it has been working with Tunisian authorities to investigate the wider threat from terrorist groups.

On its travel advice website, the Foreign Office said Tunisian government has improved protective security in major cities and tourist resorts.

But it warned that terrorists are still "very likely" to try to carry out attacks in Tunisia, "including against UK and Western interests".

Tunisia has been under a state of emergency since a suicide attack on a police bus in November 2015.

It has been extended a number of times, most recently on October 5.

“The lawmaker died at the Federal Medical Center, Ido Ekiti, early this morning,” Adebayo said.

SPECIAL REPORT: 10 men who looted life out of Nigerian Airways

On Tuesday, as the Nigerian government commenced payment of the pension of retired employees of the defunct Nigerian Airways, members of the House of Representatives passed a resolution to investigate those indicted for looting the resources of the fallen national carrier.
After weeks of verification, the government eventually cleared about 6,000 former employees to be paid from the N45 billion earmarked for the purpose. The former employees have not been paid their entitlements since 2003 when the airline went belly up.
The House resolution to identify those indicted by the white paper with the aim of ensuring they are “prosecuted and made to refund the loot,” followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by James Faleke (APC-Lagos) during plenary.
Mr Faleke said the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2002 set up the Justice Obiora Nwazota Judicial Commission to probe the operations of Nigerian Airways. He said the commission revealed the looting and misappropriation of the company’s resources to the tune of N60 billion.
“The white paper was approved by the federal government and further directed the Federal Ministry of Finance and the police to recover the stolen funds and prosecute the indicted culprits,” he said.
“Those indicted in the report are believed to be largely visible in the public arena while the ex-workers continue to languish in abject poverty having been denied their rights to their entitlements with many of them reportedly dead without receiving their entitlements.”
Mr Faleke then added that if the Obasanjo government and subsequent administrations had implemented the recommendations of the white paper, workers of the airline would not have suffered much pains and deprivation.
An orgy of fraud
In 2013, a PREMIUM TIMES’ two-part investigation on the judicial commission of inquiry’s white paper detailed the orgy of fraud and unbridled embezzlement that ultimately hastened the death of the once prosperous airline.
The airline, which had 32 airworthy aircraft in its heyday in the 1980s, saw its fleet reduced to just two barely functional airplanes. Outraged by the cascading status of the airline, Mr Obasanjo in 2002 set up the commission of inquiry to investigate its management.
The commission was mandated, amongst other things, to “examine all books of account and records and determine whether there has been compliance with appropriate regulations.”
The commission worked for a year going through documents and interviewing stakeholders and other experts. At the end of its assignment, it submitted a four-volume report that revealed mind-boggling fraud, misappropriations and wanton recklessness running into billions of naira involving several officials of the airline, administrators, travel agencies, financial institutions, local and foreign companies, as well as one prominent development organisation.
On December 11, 2002, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved a draft White Paper on the commission’s report and directed the ministry of justice and the police to prosecute and recover the stolen funds. It also directed the office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) to gazette the recommendations of the white paper.
That was the last heard of the white paper. The police, the justice ministry and the SGF failed to do as the FEC directed.
The Justice Nwazota-led Commission of Inquiry revealed that decency was thrown to the dogs in the management of the Nigerian Airways. It was a free-for-all contest of corruption with almost everyone involved in the running of the airline trying desperately to out-embezzle the other.
Due process was alien to the managers of the airline. Officials stole and misappropriated tens of millions of dollars. Administrators arbitrarily signed shady contracts with companies without recourse to regulations, monies were dubiously deposited and lost in moribund financial institutions. Functional airplanes were sold as scraps and the revenue stolen.
Officials collected huge loans from financial institutions with the name of the airline and kept the money for personal use.
The indicted
Though several individuals, organisations, companies were indicted by the judicial panel of inquiry for their roles, which includes the stealing of several millions of dollars, in the eventual demise of Nigerian Airways, some persons received prominent mentions for their brazen and unrestrained looting of the airline.
Just like Mr Faleke said on the floor of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, many of them are still around today, free and enjoying the proceeds of their alleged fraudulent act after killing a national icon. Below is a list of these men.

1. Mohammed Joji
No single individual should be blamed as much as a former managing director of the Nigerian Airways, Mohammed Joji, the judicial commission found. In fact, the commission stated that Mr Joji, who owns Skypower Express Airways and is the secretary general of Aircraft Operators of Nigeria, was brashly corrupt and handled the affairs of the airline in such a reprehensible manner that it recommended he should be banned from ever holding public office in Nigeria.

However, last year, the President Muhammadu Buhari administration allegedly appointed him to head a committee that supervised the repair of the Abuja airport and the temporary relocation of international flight to nearby Kaduna Airport. That alleged appointment was, however, not publicly announced.

The Nwazota-led commission found that in 1993 Mr Joji “collected and spent” N4.37 billion ($12 million) royalty from Swissair without approval.
Also, in the same year, he diverted N3.57 billion ($9,800,000) to himself in a single transaction. According to the judicial committee, Mr. Joji claimed that he paid N3.93 billion ($10.8 million) to a defunct Belgian national airline, Sabena Airline, but he only paid N364 million ($1million), the panel discovered.

Further, the white paper revealed that in March 1993, Mr Joji “unlawfully approved” N2 million to one Grace Hembah as imprest account.
In the same year, Mr. Joji outsourced the maintenance of a Boeing 737 aircraft to Brazilian consultants paying them in full despite up to 75 per cent of the maintenance was done by employees of Nigerian Airways. The committee said the airline lost N1.28 billion ($3.53 million) in the process.
A year before, Mr. Joji had paid Nicon Insurance PLC N896.43 million ($2,458,064) less premium due to the then government-owned insurance company. Also, the judicial committee found that during the tenure of Mr. Joji as the managing director of the airline, N813.38 ($2,230,357) discounted from the premium accrued to the airline had vanished into thin air.

In all, the white paper revealed that Mr. Joji was responsible for the diversion or siphoning of N11 billion ($30,018,421) in 24 months.
When contacted in 2013, when the story was published, Mr Joji, told PREMIUM TIMES that his indictment was as a result of a witchhunt against him by former aviation ministers, Bablola Borishade and Kema Chikwe.
He described Mr Nwazota as a mere consultant, adding that the committee did not do a good job.

“There were several panels. Nwazota was just a consultant. Is that what you call a panel? They didn’t do a proper job,” he said in a telephone conversation.
“Do your research. The question you have to ask is who wrote the white paper? Was it gazetted? Was anyone charged?”
He wondered why PREMIUM TIMES was interested in the story 10 years after.
“At that time, no newspaper wrote about it. The White Paper was published 10 years ago, why are you just writing about it now,” he queried.
When told we had just started publishing, he replied:
“You are starting on a bad note. They will charge you to court. The White Paper is not gazetted. You’re playing a dangerous game. Ten years ago, something was written, and you just came overnight and want to write something about it.”
“It just a wishy-washy thing by Mr. Borishade and Kema Chikwe. It wasn’t gazetted and I wasn’t charged,” he said.

2. Jani Ibrahim
The second biggest culprit in the demise of the Nigerian Airways identified by the Nwazota commission of inquiry is Jani Ibrahim. The chieftain of the Nigerian ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kwara State was indicted for several fraudulent and illegal acts between 1996 and 2001 that he was the managing director of the airways.
 Jani Ibrahim
Mr. Ibrahim, who is now a director of Heritage Bank, was so enmeshed in corruption that the investigating commission declared that ““every project and contract was conceived with fraudulent intent.” The white paper specifically described him as “fraudulent and high-handed.”
According to the white paper, Mr. Ibrahim treated the airline’s account like his personal wallet and summarily sacked those “he thought were threats to his fraudulent practices.”

The judicial commission found that between 1997 and 1999, Mr. Ibrahim collected rent valued at N1.47 billion ($4,052,234.00) due to the airline and spent the money without recourse to laid down regulations.
He unilaterally paid $1.78 million without guarantee to Alpine Aviation, a travel agency for the 1999 Hajj operation. The agency failed to deliver. But only $560,000 was recovered from the agency. The balance of N444.92 million ($1.22 million) could not be recovered, the commission stated in the white paper.
Between 1997 and 1999 was the period Mr. Ibrahim was most profligate, the report stated. In that period, he appointed and paid a third-party company, Hak Air, N338.75 million ($928,895) to collect revenue on behalf of the airline. After analysing the deal, the judicial commission stated the Hak Air has no capacity whatsoever to carry out the job assigned to it.
Mr. Ibrahim also overpaid Hak Air (N529 million) $1.45 million for overhauling two aircraft – DC10-30 and B737, the white paper stated.
During the first C-Check of an Airbus in Nigeria by United Kingdom-based aircraft maintenance firm, Revilo Aerospace, Mr. Ibrahim made an over-payment of N224.68million ($616,052.26). He also “single-handedly signed and disbursed N379 million ($1,039,439.00) without the signature of the airline’s financial director as regulation required.”
Mr. Ibrahim also unilaterally allotted 24 plots of land belonging to the airline in the Ayobo area of Lagos to non-staff members of the airline.
In keeping faith with what the judicial commission described as Mr Ibrahim’s authoritarian approach to leadership, he went into a Wet Lease agreement with Al-Mahfooz Aviation, a Gambian chartered airline, that was to last for a year, but the venture collapsed because Mr. Ibrahim did not consult Nigerian Airways technical department. The failure of the agreement cost the airline N247.28 million.
In all, a whopping N3.63 billion disappeared as a result of corruption and the highhandedness of Mr. Ibrahim while he was managing director of the airline, the report stated.

3. Bernard Banfa and Patrick Koshoni
During his time as managing director of the Nigerian airways, the judicial commission revealed that Bernard Banfa, a retired air commodore, colluded with Patrick Koshoni, a retired admiral and the minister of aviation at the time, to sell airworthy A310 aircraft at giveaway prices against the advice of experts. The commission recommended that the duo should refund N158.73 billion ($435.25 million) being the cost of an A310 aircraft.
There is no evidence that both men repaid the money as directed by the commission. Despite his indictment by the commission, in 2016, President Buhari appointed Mr Banfa, who was a member of the President’s defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) which later merged with other parties to form the ruling APC, into the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

4. Afam Nwagboso
Afam Nwagboso, who was the director of finance of the Nigerian Airways in 1992, with the approval of Mr Joji, designated a moribund bank (Continental Merchant Bank) as the collecting bank for all cash taking of the airline. Soon after the designation, the bank failed, and the airline lost N40 million already collected by it.

5. Olu Bajowa and Alabo Graham-Douglas
The managing director of Nigeria Airways between 1988 and 1990, Olu Bajowa, a retired major general, gave CES Travels the exclusive right to sell tickets for the airline in the United Kingdom and the United States. During the period, CES Travels failed to remit N2.29 billion ($6.3 million) worth of tickets it sold on behalf of the airline.
 Alabo Graham-Douglas
Commission recommended that Mr. Bajowa, Alabo Graham Douglas, a prominent Ijaw politician and member of the opposition Peoples democratic Party in Rivers State, M. Abdulsalam, T. Mgbhor and U.S.H Maigida, should refund the money to the airline’s account.

6. Mohammed Kari
The judicial commission also wrote in its white paper that in 1993, a former managing director and chief executive of Nicon Insurance, Mohammed Kari, colluded with other officials of Nicon Insurance and Nigerian Airways to divert N50.82 billion ($13,935,956) to a phony company – Alexander Services Limited in the Channel Island, an offshore tax haven.

 Mohammed Kari
In July 2015, Mr Buhari, in one of his first appointments made after being sworn-in as president, named Mr Kari the commissioner for Insurance and chief executive of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).

For days, Mr Kari failed to respond to questions about his indictment sent to by PREMIUM TIMES through the spokesperson of NAICOM, Razaq Salami.

7. Ibrahim Bala
Bala Ibrahim was an area marketing manager of the airline. In 1993, he stole N860.50 million ($2,359,546.95) collected from the Jeddah station for excess baggage and luggage allowance, the commission revealed.

8. All-Well Brown
For two years, between 1995 to 1997, All-Well Brown, a director, “kept some crew of the airline in Miami for five months for no reasonable cause,” the commission discovered. Their stay cost the airline N44.49 million ($122,000.00).

9. Alexandra Howden
Some officials of the airways connived with a defunct UK insurance company, Alexandra Howden, and transferred N893.49 million ($2.45 million) to its account without rendering any service to the airline.

10. A. Olafisoye
According to the report, Mr Olafisoye, the Managing Director of Fidelity Bond Limited, and other senior management officials, stole millions of dollar from the airline. The report described Mr. Olafisoye as “all-in-all [who] manipulated the operators of the company at will.” The report said his involvement with the company “led to the looting of funds and other fraudulent activities that brought the [airline] on its kneels.”
Fidelity Bond has vacated its only known address at Elephant House, Alausa, Ikeja, in 2011, PREMIUM TIMES investigation revealed.

Yoruba youths warn Tinubu against supporting Buhari

A group of Yoruba youths known as the Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association has warned Asiwaju Bola Tinubu against supporting President Muhammadu Buhari reelection in 2019.

The President of the YYSA, Mr Olalekan Hammed, made the position of the group known in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday.

He said it had become obvious that the All Progressives Congress and Buhari did not value the contributions of Tinubu towards the party and the emergence of Buhari as the President in 2015.

Hammed said the position of former President Olusegun Obasanjo that Tinubu did not hold any post within the APC was justifiable, saying Buhari had written the Independent National Electoral Commission to state that he was the national leader of the APC.

The statement said, “The fact that President Muhammadu Buhari deliberately wrote INEC to affirm his position as the APC national leader vindicates the former President Obasanjo who had sometime challenged the former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to state his roles in the APC as the national leader of the party.

“Constitutionally, APC has no reasonable provision for him (Tinubu) in the party and he has been used and dumped.

“It would have been better and respectable, provided Mr Buhari did not write to INEC or talk about the issue. The letter he wrote to the electoral umpire to attest that he is the party’s national leader was aimed at ridiculing Tinubu.

“Yoruba people understand body language more than any other tribe in Nigeria. There is no sense in staying with people who do not appreciate your presence or feel your impact. The YYSA implores Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to think twice before supporting Buhari’s reelection bid. There is no difference between someone who steals your property and someone who shows no gratitude for all the favour rendered to him.”

150 groups ask EFCC to probe Alpha Beta's N100bn tax evasion

About 150 anti-corruption groups under the aegis of the Civil Society Network Against Corruption have asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to urgently investigate an alleged N100bn fraud, tax evasion and money laundering against Alpha Beta Consulting Ltd., Alpha Beta LLP and Ocean Trust Ltd.

Alpha Beta Consulting, a firm given exclusive rights to monitor and collect Internally Generated Revenue on behalf of the Lagos State Government, had in September been accused of tax fraud to the tune of N100bn by Mr Dapo Apara, its former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

However, in a petition forwarded to the EFCC and signed by CSNAC’s Chairman, Mr Olanrewaju Suraju, the network urged the EFCC to act immediately, adding that the case was a test of the government’s will in its call for citizens’ participation in governance and fight against corruption.

The petition read in part, “Following the breaking news on Sahara Reporters dated September 7, 2018, and captioned ‘Tinubu’s Alpha Beta accused of N100bn money laundering, tax evasion fraud’, we write to urge you to use your good offices, in collaboration with the Federal Inland Revenue Services, to dauntlessly and without fear or favour launch an urgent and immediate investigation into the allegations contained in the said report with a view to proving to the Nigerian populace that the current administration’s fight against corruption is transparent and executed without concerns about whose ox is gored.

“Speculations are that the company belongs to Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the ex-governor of Lagos State and ‘National Leader’ of the ruling party or that he is a major shareholder in the company, as Alpha Beta first became known when it was appointed as a consultant to the Lagos State Government, under the tenure of Babatunde Fowler as the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue from 2005 to 2014.”

CSNAC said since Apara’s allegations went viral in September, the Lagos State Government had failed to make any reaction.

It added that the state never denied claims that the company takes about 10 per cent of the internally generated revenue of Lagos, estimated in 2016 to be about N40bn every month.

The petition added, “Recall that we also wrote a petition to your office sometime in March, 2018,  with respect to the use of fishy companies to aid corruption by the ‘feudal lords’ in Lagos State by diverting public resources into private holdings.

“Mr Apara, according to the aforementioned publication, stated that over the years, the company is being protected and shielded by some powerful politicians and people in the society which made them to always boast of being untouchable.”

Speaking with our correspondent on Sunday, however, the EFCC Spokesman, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, asked the groups to be patient, adding that petitions took time to investigate.

He said, “The commission receives hundreds of petitions on a daily basis. Expectedly, screening and evaluation of these petitions take time. Petitioners who have faith in the EFCC must be patient to allow the commission to do its work.”

APC crisis: Buhari begins reconciliation process

As the All Progressives Congress crisis deepens, President Muhammadu Buhari has taken over the process of restoring the confidence of aggrieved members of the party.

A top-ranking member of the party’s National Working Committee confirmed the development to one of our correspondents in Abuja on Sunday.

He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media on the issue.

The source said, “The President has chosen a different approach this time; he is meeting with the aggrieved persons directly so that he can deal with the situation.

“As you know, some of our party people go to tell him things and only the aggrieved can say what level of injustice they suffered. He even met with a delegation of aggrieved party members from Bauchi yesterday. ”

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed this development in an interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja, on Sunday.

Shehu spoke amidst media reports that Buhari had set up a five-man committee to look into the post-primaries crises and advise him accordingly.

Media reports had it that the committee had since submitted its report to the President and that he (the President) would be meeting some critical stakeholders on Tuesday.

Although he did not give details of Buhari’s intervention, Shehu said the President was “deeply and directly involved” in the efforts aimed at ensuring peace in the party.

The presidential spokesman added that Buhari’s involvement was evident in some of his recent activities.

He said, “The President is aware of the urgency of the situation (the APC post-primaries crises) and he is dealing with the matter headlong.

“He is directly and deeply involved in how to resolve the issue as can be seen from his activities lately.”

Why Buhari should be reelected--Lai Mohammed.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has listed reasons President Muhammadu Buhari deserves reelection in 2019.

He spoke in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

Mohammed also stated that the President has rebranded governance and has put the country on the path of sustainable growth and development, among other things.

He said, “He has rebranded governance, he has put the country on the path of sustainable growth and development, he is rebuilding infrastructure, implementing what can be described as the most ambitious social investment programme in the history of the nation.

“He is ensuring that a few fat cats do not loot the national resources, at the same time, he is ensuring that Nigeria is self-sufficient in many areas especially in food production.

“Above all, he has brought honour and respect back to the country and at the same time, fighting all forms of insecurity.

“We have put in place certain measures that have made it difficult for those who want to loot our resources to do so”.

On corruption allegations leveled against some officials, Mohammed investigations were ongoing.

“In the case of the NHIS, Dr Usman Yusuf, the matter is being handled at the highest level.

“The government is on top the matter and in a very short while, we are going to find a resolution to it.

“The issue of Babachir, of course, he was fired. Not that alone, he is being investigated by the appropriate agencies. We are not going to micro-manage,” he said.

Buhari’s Certificate Saga: It’s an insult to the Armed forces – Gen Alani Akinrinade

The former Chief of staff, Lt. General Ipoola Alani Akinrinade, Sunday, slammed those criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari over his statement that his West African School Certificate Examination certificate, WACE, was with the Nigerian Army. Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), In a statement disclosed by Mr President’s special adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the former Chief of Defence Staff insisted that Buhari has a certificate. Angered at the spate at which Nigerians lambast Buhari over his certificate, Akinrinade blamed the Nigeria’s recording system. His words, “How many years ago ?… 50 years. And Nigeria with our (poor) record keeping and filing things into an archive. If we have an archive at all;  an archive inhabited by rats and cockroaches. I think it’s an insult”. However, clearing the air he said that the certificate saga was an insult to the Nigerian Army, noting that the time Buhari joined the Armed forces ‘there were no cutting corners’.

 below:

“… The most annoying one is the case about (Muhammadu) Buhari not having a Certificate. It is an insult to the Armed Forces, a terrible insult to the Armed Forces. If they are so embedded in the system and they have lost their souls, then they can go ahead and join everybody else in castigating a General of Buhari’s calibre. Buhari:  Beyond the noise of WAEC Certificate They are now talking about a School Certificate. By the time he joined the Army in those days, there were no cutting corners. It is later when these same Civilians took over from the Army that admission into it became less transparent. I can give you an instance. There was Course Five around 1964: if one did not have a School Certificate, one couldn’t apply to join the Army. And I know up to 1963 when the last General Officer Commanding left Nigeria, there were no corners to be cut. There was no such thing. Everything was on merit.

Army repairs dilapidated Abia school, procure sports equipment And that was how it was till Buhari’s time. Buhari attended the Mons (Officer Cadet School in Aldershot in England) and the Staff College. I don’t want to think they have an idea what they teach in those places. And the rest of us pretend as if we don’t know what they do there. You send a man to America for one and a half years in a Military School. Do they think he just went there to learn how to fire a rifle ? No. As I speak to you, I don’t know where my original Certificate is because we gave the original to the Military Board. They took it from us when we applied to join the Army. You give the original copy of credentials to the Board. They take it and keep it in your file, that’s what happened. How many years ago ?… 50 years. And Nigeria with our (poor) record keeping and filing things into an archive. If we have an archive at all; an archive inhabited by rats and cockroaches. I think it’s an insult. I take it as a personal insult” – Gen Alani Akinrinade.

Buhari’s refusal to provide certificate showed he failed through school — S’West PDP

MIXED reactions, yesterday, trailed the controversy surrounding President Muhammadu Buhari’s missing certificate. While the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the South West, said that President Buhari failure to tender his certificates to Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for screening showed he failed through school, a pro-Buhari group, Re-Elect Buhari Movement, dismissed the PDP’s outburst that followed the submission of an affidavit in place of certificates.   Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), In a statement, Zonal Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Ayo Fadaka said his action “stylishly attest to the fact that he failed through school.” The statement reads: “We are however inclined to believe that he never made a success out of studying, therefore was a very bad student. “We give due to the notice of the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari has again failed to tender his certificates to INEC for screening. “This is on the heels of the fact that all other Presidential candidates have submitted their credentials to INEC. “We also recall that in 2014,

President Buhari gave this same excuse when he failed to tender his certificates, then he was an opposition candidate. “We, however, believe that since he is now President and Commander-in-Chief, he is in a position to order the Army to release his certificates to him, more so, many decades after he retired from the Army. “The persistent failure of Buhari to avail Nigerians of his educational credentials is indeed a source of worry, while we readily agree that he went through formal education, we are however inclined to believe that he never made a success out of studying, therefore was a very bad student.” Group dismisses PDP’s stance on Buhari Faulting the PDP, a pro-Buhari group, Re-Elect Buhari Movement, dismissed the outrage that followed the submission of an affidavit in place of certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, by President Buhari to pursue his second term ambition by the PDP. In a statement, RBM convener, Mr. Emmanuel Umohinyang said there was nothing strange in the action as the president did same in 2015. Umohinyang said: “The PDP reminds one of the stories of Saul in the Bible.  The PDP are always quick to make allegations that are meaningless in the eyes of the ordinary man on the street.

“President Buhari in 2015 had also made the same affidavit to INEC where he said then that his certificates are with the Secretary of the military board. “I do not think anything has changed because it is the same affidavit that the President has equally submitted this time. “It is elementary that when something is in the public domain, thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, the people have a right, if they are so concerned to write to the appropriate authority to demand that they furnish them with such information, and the PDP is part and parcel of it. “If they are so bothered about it, they can write relying on the Freedom of Information Act, but I think the president’s position has been very consistent.”

“May be, they do not know President Buhari.  He is as constant as the northern star.  Whatsoever he tells you today, if you go back to him in the next 100 years, he will still repeat the same. “That goes to tell you that truth is constant.    For falsehood, you need a lot of lies to cover one lie. “So, I do not think the President sending an affidavit to INEC instead of a certificate should be an issue. “Swearing to an affidavit with false motives is perjury.  You should know the President would not have brought himself so low to achieve any objective, no matter how huge.”

‘Shaku Shaku’ dance step is what we'll do in our campaign –Osinbajo

                             Image result for osinbajo

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, on Sunday in Abuja, jocularly said he was learning the Shaku Shaku dance steps for campaigns ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Shaku Shaku is a popular and contemporary dance style common among young Nigerians.

Osinbajo, who was the Chairman and Special Guest of Honour at the launch of Five Fascinating Books written by Funmilayo Braithwaite, in Abuja on Sunday, said a friend of his recently polled large number of votes just by dancing.

According to him, nobody knows what will work in Nigerian politics.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the books — The Path of Fate, Echoes of Yesteryears, Politicrisis, The Golden Rules and Bonds of Destiny – were unveiled at Transcorp Hilton Hotel.

The vice-president said that he believed that reading the books would provide resolutions to a lot of the questions that were raised in the lives of Nigerians and in the lives of children.

He said: “And hopefully, we will be able to find resolution to some of the questions raised in our political lives as well; I know that is one of the reason Alhaji Shittu Kabir, Chairman, Advanced Peoples Democratic Party is here.

“As matter of fact, for those of us who are politicians, when you see `Politicrisis’; especially as elections approach, you might think there is a formula somewhere.

“Kabir and I and are the opposite sides but we are here to learn; I was saying the other day that politics in Nigeria is becoming very exciting; you never know what works.

“I can never forget my dear friend in one of the states who just danced his way through the campaigns; all he did was dance; he did nothing else but dance and he won 250,000 votes.

“So myself and Kabir are now learning Shaku Shaku; we have to learn; who knows what will win.’’

He lauded the author, saying she had very deep in reflecting on many of the difficult and wide range of issues.

According to Osinbajo, looking at what the author has done with the five books, it is very evident that a lot of her deep introspection has not left her.

He said that the author was constantly trying to answer the various questions of life.

The vice president said that some of the questions had to do with the value system in the society and how those values might appear to have collapsed over the years.

“When you look at the questions she raised about children; bringing up children bullying and all of that; children even been able to share their thoughts their visions with their parents.

“Going into `Politicrisis’ and all of that; you will find out that the issues are always the same; issues on integrity; how can we stand up for what we believe; competing and very difficult circumstances that we find ourselves.

“How can we truly be ourselves; how can we truly express ourselves? It is a sort of things that you hardly find these days.

“And, I am very pleased that despite all the challenges, Funmi continues to be the one doing a lot the thinking for us; a lot of the reflection for us; because society if guided by those who are able to think and reflect; those who are able to sit down and try to answer all these questions for us,’’ he said.

Osinbajo said he looked forward to seeing the books in private and public libraries across the country as well as in various ministries of education for distribution to children.

Votes from North-East may be lost to opposition, APC lawmaker tells Buhari

The lawmaker representing Yobe East Senatorial District, Senator Bukkar Abba Ibrahim, has warned the ruling All Progressives Congress not to assume that the North-East geopolitical zone will vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 like it did in 2015.

The states in the North-East are Yobe, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba.

The senator said the issues for which people of the North-East voted for Buhari and APC had not been addressed. According to him, they are getting worse.

Ibrahim, who was governor of Yobe State for three terms within two dispensations and now serving his third term at the Senate, stated that rigging would not save the President and the party from the imminent defeat.

The senator issued the warning at the Internet launch of his book, ‘Poorlitics,’ and 70th birthday celebration held in Abuja on Saturday night.

Ibrahim, whose wife, Khadijat, is currently the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said the North-East should not be taken for granted “since it is not a must for the zone to support Buhari.”

He said, “As we move towards the elections, I have to give a dire warning to the APC that things are no longer the way they were in 2015 when we rode to power on a cloud of euphoria, believing that things will change for better.

“Simply put, things have not changed and many things are getting worse and the people are bitter.

“We should not assume that we can win, even with massive rigging. The economy has gone down because of our action and inaction, and we are blaming the past too much rather than solving the present problems.

“I am going to give a dire warning. Let the North-East not be taken for granted that we must support APC.

“Our interest in the North-East has always been progressive and I will personally be watching for required improvement in the APC before the elections.

“Improvement that can guarantee victory such as respecting the rule of law and releasing political prisoners as well as non-selective war against corruption, as against one sided witch-hunt.”

Nigeria heads for balkanization should it be Islamized – Oyedepo

                          Image result for oyedepo

The founder and President of the Living Faith Church worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has said Nigeria will break if it becomes an Islamic nation.

The cleric also warned Nigerians and politicians over the unending killings of innocent citizens.

Oyedepo gave this warning in a satellite telecast of the church’s prayer session for the nation monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria, on Sunday, in Abuja.

The Bishop, while urging politicians to repent and have value for the lives of citizens, said if they did not repent after the warning, they would fall down for the sake of the nation.

He said, “Politicians be warned, whether in power or not in power. There is no day Nigeria will become an Islamic nation and this nation will remain one nation.

“Allow the Christians to go to church, allow the Muslims go to their mosque and let the traditional worshippers do their thing.

“God is giving Nigeria peace, by all means, the peace of those promoting this wickedness, God is taking away, if they refuse to repent. Their supplies shall dry up because Nigeria shall not see war.”

He said that every leader was just a caretaker and God remained the creator and owner of every Nation including Nigeria.

He added that Nigeria would have peace when they understood that God was in control of everything including the land.

“When a caretaker starts behaving like a landlord, he will be removed. God is the permanent landlord of the earth.

“The God of heaven has given you authority and power. He has given you might and glory. Pride makes us think that we do not need God. Pride separates us from God. Nebuchadnezzar did not give credit to God, and God had enough.”

The Bishop added, “ Politicians are not extraordinary people, they only have grace. If they don’t harken to this warning of the Lord, they will suffer disgrace.”

El-Rufai Under Fire Over Threat To Demolish Christian-Dominated Community

Nasir el-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State, has come under fire from religious leaders and traditional rulers over his threat to demolish Gonin Gora community, a Christian-dominated area along Kaduna - Abuja road.

On Saturday morning, during a state-wide broadcast, the governor threatened to demolish or relocate Gonin Gora community, if youth in the area refused to stop blocking roads and killing innocent people".

However, according to the leaders, the decision of the governor was unfortunate and unacceptable, although they urged residents in the area to remain peaceful and law abiding.

The Sarki Samarina, Akila Luka, who spoke to SaharaReporters urged residents to remain calm and not to take law into their hands. He stressed that any attempt to demolish the community would not be resisted, adding that Gonin Gora is a settlement dominated by Christians.

According to Luka, the governor failed to threaten communities such as Mando, Nasarawa, Badiko, Ango Mazu, Pantaker and a host of others who are also guilty of the same accusation he levelled against Gonin Gora.

He said: "Anytime there is riot, people from these communities also block the highways indiscriminately. The governor has never said anything about those areas. Here in Gonin Gora, we don't have problem; we are peaceful."

Also speaking on the threat by the governor, Shekwolo Ayuba, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Chikun Local Government, urged residents to be peaceful and not to take laws into their hands. He expressed concern over the threat of demolition, noting that it would subject the residents to untold hardship.

"We don't know what the governor means, but we will wait and see what will happen. For someone to wake up one day and said that he will demolish the entire community is unacceptable," he said.

Gonin Gora, which is located along Kaduna - Abuja road, is a community of more than 800,000 people, and is home to a large percentage of Christians.

A press statement issued by Samuel Aruwan, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor (Media and Publicity) on Saturday after a meeting of a select committee of the Kaduna State Security Council, noted that 32 persons had been arrested in connection with the attacks in the state in recent times.
